USA: 150 000 iPads have been pre-ordered since Friday

It is estimated that roughly 152 000 Apple iPads have been pre-ordered since they went on sale in the U.S. on Friday morning, according to early estimates by Investor Village released on Monday.

FILES-US-IT-VIDEOGAMES-INTERNET-APPLE-IPAD142407--300x300 Initially, pre-orders for the latest Apple device were estimated at 25 000 per hour, but dropped down to just 1 000 orders per hour over the weekend, according to Daniel Tello of Investor Village. Most orders were for the Wi-Fi enabled version of the iPad, which isn’t that surprising considering that 3G came to the U.S. much
later than in Europe while Wi-Fi hot spots proliferated in urban areas in the meantime.

Apple will start shipping Wi-Fi equipped iPads as soon as April 3 wheras iPads equipped with Wi-Fi+3G are expected later in April 2010.
