Despite the current downturn affecting the magazine publishing industry worldwide, German magazine publisher Hubert Burda Media is hedging its bets and launching four new one-shot magazines in 2010. Burda put out the country living magazine Mein Schönes Land (My beautiful country life) as a special issue to Germany’s largest gardening magazine Mein Schöner Garten (My beautiful garden).
The second magazine, spun off women’s services bi-weekly magazine Freundin, has been developed under the code name Anton but will come out as Freundin Donna. The new women’s title, which caters to affluent mature women 45+, will be available in German newsstands on May 12 for 3 euros. Freundin Donna will cover topics such as beauty, fashion, health & body, lifestyle, but also relationships and psychology.
As previously reported on this blog, Burda invested in the erotic magazine Alley Cat at the beginning of this year and its new incarnation under Burda ownership will also be released in May. The erotic magazine caters to young women aged 18 to 29 years. The fourth title Burda is an internal creation, developed by the young graduates of the in-house School of Journalism. It will be a pattern DIY magazine called Easy – a younger Burda Style, some say – that will be put out in the market this June. Some interesting print experiments in these hard times in any case. Let’s hope it pays off!
